HOLIDAY DIY: HEART-SHAPED KOLACHY COOKIES

My favorite cure for the endless snow and chill of February in the midwest is Valentine’s Day. Growing up, my mom always made Valentine’s Day feel special. My brothers and I would receive tiny heart-shaped gifts the morning of Valentine’s Day and the house would be decorated with bright pink and red hearts. Every year we would make heart-shaped kolachy cookies. Originally we made them with Solo cherry filling, and then upgraded them with fancy raspberry preserves. This year I started thinking about Valentine’s Day early, and decided to add some “heart of gold” to the mix with apricot preserves. I hope this recipe brings some love and joy to your February.
